Ramy Brooks suspended from Iditarod for two years, on probabtion for three

Ramy Brooks, a well respected musher and public figure, has been suspended from racing in the Iditarod sled dog race for two years after admitting to striking his dogs with a trail marker at the Golovin checkpoint. Brooks was also put on probation for the three first years he is allowed to return to the race, starting 2010.The Iditarod board of Directors took independent witness and veterinary reports into account during their decision making process, and says that throughout the ordeal Brooks remained co-operative and helpful.The official Iditarod website states “It is important that all sponsors, fans and volunteers know that dog abuse will not be tolerated in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. It is always disappointing and regrettable that any action on or off the trail might result in any discomfort or pain to any dog.
