Look out boys, Davis wins Yellowknife

The mushing world has long been dominated by men, but more recently Wendy Davis has shown that she is a force to reckon with. Davis won the Wyoming stage race this season and followed that with the Diavik 150 Canadian Championships in Yellowknife.Davis runs a team owned by Lloyd Gilbertson, who won the race last year. More than just a sled jockey, Davis is proving herself to be a very competitive, strategic musher with a great deal of knowledge of the sport and dog care.Davis, who began mushing in 2000 in Oregon, met Lloyd Gilbertson and decided to join forces. Lloyd and Mary Gilbertson, based out of Michigan, run Caribou Creek Kennel. Davis, from Lander, Wyoming works for the National Outdoor Leadership School leading climbing expeditions.Sam Perrino, the Diavik 150 runner-up was only seconds behind Davis in the overall standings, despite winning the 1st and 3rd day stages.
