IPSSSDR Day 2, Lander Stage

Sun, warm temps and clear skies greeted the mushers this morning in Lander for the first timed stage of the race. The mushers set out to run 45 miles on a freshly groomed Continental Divide trail which included plenty of climbing and descending. The trail out of Lander starts at about 9000 feet elevation and at its highest point reaches over 10,000 ft. As expected Blayne Streeper’s team looked the smoothest. Utilizing the dogs smooth lope, Blayne piloted the team to a first place time for the day: 3:07:22. Only 3 minutes behind, the 9-dog team of Anna Bjorklund placed 2nd. Anna is running the “A” team for Lloyd Gilbertson. Aaron Peck, running a strong 10-dog team came in third, just 2 minutes behind Bjorklund.
