We are sitting down with Rohn and Alyssa Buser at their home and kennel, Susitna Sled Dog Adventures in Talkeetna, Alaska, and talking dogs. We find out what makes Rohn tick after a lifetime of being around dogs and even find out that his mom’s cookies are the bomb!
The Kobuk 400. Everyone who runs it says it is such a fun event and all of the communities are involved.
Run one of the races overseas. I have only run races in Alaska and the Lower 48, not even in Canada.
People who don’t have an open mind about working with their dogs.
The Internet, is such a good resource! I mean I could live without it but I don’t really want to.
Do something that you are passionate about.
Our tour sled. I have always built sleds but now after having a kid, I am considering buying a sled for the first time.
I have lost a team before in a race and they just kept going.
Try not to repeat the same mistakes twice.
Just putting everything together.
Have a mentor. Start with a clear goal about what you want to get out of mushing and have a path to get there. For example, if you want to run pure-breed dogs, start with purebreed. If you want to run Iditarod, start with good dogs.
A full bag of dog food and a kennel full of hapy dogs.
Probably the Iditarod. It is such a long event there will always be challenges.
