When the opportunity to become stewards of Mushing Magazine, now Mushing.com, arrived, we did not treat it as a simple acquisition. We treated it as a responsibility to the archive, to the people who have kept the sport alive, and to the next generation of mushers and readers.

Our decision rested on three commitments.

First, the archive. Decades of race reports, technical writing, photographs, and community voices form a living history. We will protect that record, make it more accessible, and refuse to let it disappear into forgotten boxes or broken links.

Second, the future of the coverage itself. Print had reached its practical limit. Going forward we will expand interactive and multimedia work, audio, video, longer-form digital features, and direct conversation with the people still on the trail, so the magazine becomes a working platform rather than a static publication. The goal is coverage that serves both longtime readers and those just discovering the sport.

Third, continuity of care. We have spent years producing mushing content, running kennels, training dogs, and telling the stories of the community. Accepting stewardship means applying that same daily discipline to the magazine’s next chapter.

We have never hidden the harder chapters of our own story; the full account lives on the personal site for anyone who wants it. What matters here is the work ahead: preserving what has already been built and giving the sport a stronger, more useful platform for the years to come.

The last issue produced by the previous owners is reaching mailboxes now. From this point forward the responsibility is ours. We intend to meet it.
