The lack of snow resulted in the cancellation of the World Championship Sled Dog Derby.Diane Lyman, spokesman for the organizers, said there is not enough snow in the forecast to allow for the event to go off Feb. 24.“We need a minimum of 10 inches, and that would just give us a base” for the 16-mile course, she said. The event had been postponed Feb. 10 because of a lack of snow.Teams from as far away as Quebec were hoping to make the trip south for the event, and go from there to other sled dog races across North America.Last year, the event went off without a hitch, and conditions were what Lyman described as “perfect” for the event. In 2010, it was cancelled because of a lack of snow.
