Halfway at HalfwayCome spend a day with the dogs in Halfway, Oregon. On Friday, January 18th from 6 am to noon the 4th annual Eagle Cap Sled Dog Race will hold the race layover in Halfway’s Bigalow Field. Noted as one of the ‘toughest race in the Northwest’, the dogs and mushers are a sight to behold.Beginning at the Wallowa Lakes State Park and Recreation area, the current race route takes the teams up to two hundred miles through wilderness, cities, two counties and some of the most amazing, rugged, and glorious territory Oregon has to offer.Halfway at Halfway, the racers are required to rest their teams and refuel for the return route to Joseph. With a six hour mandatory layover, Halfway makes the perfect place to photograph the majestic dogs and take in some of the racers energy. Hop on the shuttle (operating from 9-11 a.m.) in downtown Halfway and ride on out to the festivities. Once you arrive at Bigalow field, there will be coffee, hot chocolate, race merchandise, sledding and a chance to meet with the mushers.
