Students at Chester Elementary School were treated to a special day on Dec. 21, which included wearing pajamas to school, the movie “Balto” — and a visit from some local sled dogs.The movie depicts the events of the 1925 serum run to save the children of Nome, Alaska, from an outbreak of diptheria.In preparation for the movie, each classroom teacher directed a morning lesson around the film. “It was important to connect the serum run to the curriculum, and the teachers did a great job preparing the students,” said Liz Bienia, assistant principal.Read more here: http://www.masslive.com/living/index.ssf/2013/01/chester_schoolchildren_get_mush-y_lesson_in_dog_sledding_1.html
