A large number of mushers turned out for the 3rd Annamaet Challenge Series race at Jeff Studdert Race Grounds. The race was also co-sponsored by Grubstake Feed Company.With a complete turnaround in weather conditions from last week, mushers faced soft, heavy snow conditions and with very warm temps hovering around 20F (40 degrees warmer than last week).Greg Jurek won the skijoring race overall traveling with three dogs in a time of 15:24.1, followed by Wes Graff (2 dogs) in a time of 18:54.7, and Sara Tabbert (2 dogs, 19:33.7) and Ted Wu toughed it out with just one dog traveling the 4.5 miles in 31:39.3.Jennifer Probert took the gong in the 4-dog class (15:40.3) followed by Rob Downey (15:48.4) and Evelyn Beeter, of Chistochina, (16:50.4).Probert once again followed her 4-dog win to place first in the 6 dog class with a time of 18:57.3 followed by Trisha Seibold (19:37.04) and Ami Gjestson (19:53.3).Rob Downey, who travels each year from Pennsylvania to race, won the 8-dog class easily in a time of 35:29.0 over Trisha Seibold (35:48.0) and Stacy Lanser placed third (37:07.7).Arleigh Reynolds of Salcha smoked the Open class with a team of 14 dogs with a very fast time of 45:48.3 over Jeff Conn (14 dogs, 47:21.8) and Curtis Erhart placed third (13 dogs 50:04.2).The next ADMA Annamaet Challenge Series race will be held at the Jeff Studdert Race Grounds on January 27th. Sled holders are always welcome, and it is a great way to learn more about the state sport!!
