The countdown to race day is on and the Yukon Quest 1,000 Mile International Sled Dog Race is celebrating in Alaska with a full slate of exciting fall events. Kicking off the fall schedule is the Yukon Quest Birthday Party on October 7th from 6-9 PM at the Yukon Quest Store in Fairbanks. The party will feature birthday cake, live music and prize drawings. Be sure to join us for the After Party at the Mecca! The annual Rookie Workshop is on October 8th at the Carlson Center. The workshop runs from 10 AM to 4 PM and is intended for rookies who plan to run either the 300 or 1,000-mile Yukon Quest races. All interested parties are encouraged to attend. Please RSVP to questops@mosquitonet.com. Veteran mushers scheduled to speak to date include Ken Anderson, Jodi Bailey, Mike Ellis, Lance Mackey, Hugh Neff, Brent Sass and Abbie West. Dr. Nina Hansen will also speak about the International Vet Team and procedures on the Yukon Quest Trail. We will also have a booth at the Go Winter Expo, which is being held at the Carlson Center October 8- 9th. Official Yukon Quest buttons and posters will be up for sale, as well as tickets for this year’s Fall $10,000 CASH Raffle. Tickets for the raffle are $100 each, with only 250 tickets being sold. There are 12 cash prizes to be won, including $10,000, and the drawing will take place at the Badger Den in North Pole on October 22nd starting at 6 PM.
