RONDY WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS ANNOUNCES HIGHEST SPRINT RACING PURSE EVER!

  • August 31, 2010
  • Editor and/or Contributors

Greater Anchorage Inc (GAI) and Alaskan Sled Dog & Racing Association (ASDRA) announce a guaranteed purse of $80,000 to be paid on overall places for the 2010 World Championship Sled Dog Races. In addition, a “Day Money Purse” will be added and seeded with $1,000 from Tudor Road Bingo. Additional contributions to the “Day Money Purse” are welcomed by GAI.Entry fees and payout structure will be announced prior to the start of registration on November 1st. By announcing a guaranteed purse, entry fees and payout, GAI and ASDRA confirm their commitment to the consistent growth of the race and sprint racing. The addition of “Day Money” will stimulate more competition among the mushers, creating a race within a race for all three days. 2010 saw a dramatic increase of 27 mushers, up from 18 in 2009. The increase is attributed to renewed participation in the sprint side of mushing, as well as the early announcement of the purse. The early announcement gives ample planning and training time to national and international mushers interested in racing. The positive experiences the mushers and their teams have in Anchorage is illustrated by “The Rondy” again being overwhelmingly voted “Event of the Year” by members of the International Sled Dog Racing Association. GAI and ASDRA partner to produce this historic and world renowned event with major sponsors Tudor Road Bingo Center and Hotwire Electric with support from the Municipality of Anchorage. The World Championship Sled Dog Races are February 25, 26 & 27th, 2011 at Noon, 4th & D Street, Downtown Anchorage.
