The Yukon Quest is pleased to announce our key race personnel for the 2008 race.1988 Yukon Quest Champion Dave Monson will be the 2008 Race Marshal. Mr. Monson lives in Fairbanks, Alaska with his two daughters Tekla and Chisana, and returns to the Yukon Quest as Race Marshal 20 years after his Championship run, one of three Yukon Quest’s he completed. Mr. Monson finished in 2nd place in 1987, the year before he won, and placed 4th in 2002, the only other time he entered the Yukon Quest.2007 Head Veterinarian Dr. Vern Starks will return as the 2008 Head Veterinarian. Dr. Starks has served as part of the Yukon Quest Veterinary Team since 2001 and, except for the 2002 race, has been on the trail every year since his first Yukon Quest. Dr. Starks serves on the Board of the ISDVMA has been a Trail Veterinarian on the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race since 1989 and brings a wealth of sled dog veterinary experience with him to the 2008 Yukon Quest, which will be his second term as Head Veterinarian.Josea Busby has been confirmed as the 2008 Yukon Quest Race Director. Ms. Busby volunteered as a Vet Tech for the 2007 Yukon Quest. Her background in event planning and management in addition to her experience assisting with the family-run placer mining/tourism business provide her with an excellent foundation to join the Yukon Quest team and coordinate the overall race logistics over the 1,000 mile trail.The Race Marshal, Head Vet and Race Director form the critical trio of race personnel who ensure that all dog teams and mushers comply with the race rules, strive for excellence in canine care, and keep the thousands of logistical pieces of the Yukon Quest moving in a synchronized, coherent manner to make the entire race a success.2008 will be the 25th Running of the Yukon Quest.
