‘Northern Lights 300’ Sled Dog Race Set for January

Sign-up online for the 2014 running of the Northern Lights 300 sled dog race.The proposed trail starts at Happy Trails Kennels in Big Lake Jan. 24, 2014 and continues to Yentna via Willow Swamp (about 100 miles), Yentna to Finger Lake (about 75 miles), Finger Lake to Yentna (about 75 miles) and Yentna to Happy Trails Kennels (about 45 miles). The race includes six-hour mandatory layovers at Yentna outbound and inbound and Finger Lake.Download race rules and entry forms online at northernlights300.org.Some changes to this year’s race include:• Sign-up order will be start order.• Entry fee must be paid by check or money order and applications must be mailed.• Mandatory drivers’ meeting is Friday, race day, at 8 a.m., and race starts at noon.• Mushers must supply their own Heet.• All mushers will be equipped with a SPOT Tracker.• There is no finishers’ banquet.• Purse will be paid out evenly between all official finishers.Please read the race rules carefully prior to signing up.Read more here: http://www.frontiersman.com/sports/briefs/northern-lights-sled-dog-race-set-for-january/article_0c227df8-1c41-11e3-ba84-0019bb2963f4.html
