New Don Bowers Memorial Junior Race

This season, the annual Don Bowers Memorial Sleddog Race (DBMR), a 200 and 300 mile distance event held in Willow, Alaska will feature a race within a race. The first annual DBMR Junior 100 event will start at the same time as the adult race, but will have its own Race Marshal and volunteers. All DBMR races will start at the Willow Community Center, in Willow on January 25th. The juniors will only run out to Eaglesong Lodge at Trail Lake. The juniors will then spend the night and return the next day – a trip that is approximately 90 miles round trip. The teams will follow Junior Iditarod rules (no outside assistance, sleep in sleds, not in lodge!) This race would make an excellent training and practice run for any Junior Iditarod racers. The parent organization for the race is the well known and long-established Montana Creek Dog Mushers Association, and is actively seeking donations to help offset the cost of producing the junior race in exchange for being listed as a sponsor. MCDMA will provide a receipt for all cash or in-kind donations.Contact MCDMA secretary Mike Bishop – 907-495-5737 sec@mcdma.org
