Lance Mackey donates a ton of dog food to Fairbanks animal shelter

FAIRBANKS — Sandy Besser, manager at the Fairbanks Animal Shelter, was surprised Monday by a phone call from Tonya Mackey, wife of distance musher Lance Mackey. Tonya told her they would be dropping off 2,000 pounds of dog food the next day.Tuesday, the Mackeys’ truck came by the shelter overflowing with 50 40-pound bags of dog food.
