The committee for Alaska’s Kuskokwim 300 sled dog race, the world’s richest middle-distance race, made three announcements on Wednesday as the Jan. 18 start draws nearer. The K300 committee announced that the current field has expanded to 22 mushers. The latest to join his year’s field are Josh Cadzow, Cim Smyth, Scott Smith, Pete Kaiser, Lance Mackey, Richie Diehl, Mikhail Telpin and Joar Leifseth Ulsom. Those last two names may not be as familiar as the others, but Telpin, from Russia, and Ulsom, from Norway, lend a bit of international flavor to the field for the 34th running of the K300. Both are past champions of the Nadezhda-Hope sled dog race in Chukotka, Russia, and Ulsom holds the race’s 2012 title.Read more here: http://www.alaskadispatch.com/article/kuskokwim-300-sled-dog-race-field-22-gains-global-flavor
