Deadline Nears for Mushers to Sign Up for Yukon Quest

FAIRBANKS — 2009 Yukon Quest champion and 2011 runner-up Sebastian Schnuelle will race in 2012 — despite his best intentions not to.Schnuelle, a six-time Quest finisher who placed sixth in last year’s Iditarod, faxed in his application Thursday morning, two days before today’s deadline. It came as a surprise, considering after both the 2010 and 2011 Iditarods Schnuelle said he was finished with competitive racing. But he returned to racing in 2011, using a mix of his dogs and those of Aaron Burmeister and Jessie Royer.
