The deadline for applying for the 2008 Arctic Winter Games has been extended to Oct. 30. Male or female dog mushers born between April 1, 1988 and March 31, 1993 are eligible.The 20th Arctic Winter Games will be held on March 9-15, 2008, in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Yellowknife also hosted the inaugural games in 1970.The Arctic Winter Games is an international, biennial celebration of youth, sport and culture, according to an AWG Team Alaska press release. Approximately 2,000 athletes, coaches, team staff and officials will participate in the 2008 games. Participating delegations include Alaska, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Alberta North, Nunavik (Northern Quebec), Greenland, Magadan (Russia), Yamal (Russia) and Samiland (comprised of the Lapp peoples of Norway, Sweden and Finland).For more information, contact Ron Killian at rjk@ak.net or 907-694-6220.
