University of Colorado-Boulder alumna Karin Hendrickson never planned on running sled dogs in Alaska. She graduated in 1991 with a degree in environmental conservation and a teaching certificate. After volunteering for her first Iditarod in 2002 to spend time with her mom, who is also a volunteer, Hendrickson said she couldn’t resist the pull of the dogs and formed her own team in 2006, competing in her first Iditarod in 2009. She and her husband Varan Hoyt got married along the Iditarod trail and live outside Anchorage raising about 30 dogs. Hendrickson also works full time as a pesticide control coordinator for the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation.Read more here: http://www.coloradodaily.com/extreme-sports/ci_22682803/cu-boulder-alum-compete-iditarod-dog-sled-race#axzz2MDNb17Bx
