Yukon Quest rookie, and former Quest 300 champion (2006), moved out of the Scroggie Creek checkpoint en route to Pelly Crossing a full 1 hr. 45 min ahead of Ken Anderson. Lance Mackey pulled the hook and left 5 min after Anderson. Sass chose not to spend any time at the checkpoint, but Mackey and Anderson rested close to 7 hrs there. Sass’ brief lead may be deceiving, as he will need to rest his team soon, or risk slowing down on the trail ahead. It looks as if Anderson has cut a little rest in order to play rabbit to Mackey. Any way you look at it, it’s a close race between the top 2, and possible top 3.
