The annual IditaRider Musher Auction, conducted online by the Iditarod Trail Committee, is set to close next Friday, January 18th starting at noon AST. Mushers with the highest bids to the lowest bids will close in 5 minute intervals. To place your winning bid to go: www.iditarodauction.com. Winning bidders will travel the first 11 miles of IDITAROD XLI from the very best vantage point; in the sled of their favorite musher, powered by a team of 4 legged Iditarod athletes! Minimum bids start at $500 and bidders can guarantee their sled of choice by choosing the “Buy Now” feature for $7,500. The closing date for the 2013 IditaRider Auction is January 18th, 2013. This year’s auction will again include the exclusive Ultimate Adventure package which can be purchased for $25,000, of which only one will be sold. The Ultimate Adventure includes an IditaRider sled of choice, a flight and overnight stay at Rainy Pass Lodge, and the truly unique opportunity to serve as the checkpoint “Checker,” officially welcoming and “signing in” the race leaders into the checkpoint. The Rainy Pass Checkpoint is located in the heart of the Alaska Range, approximately 272 trail miles from Anchorage. The purchaser of the Ultimate Adventure will also have the honor of cutting the ribbon at the starting line in Anchorage as well as having their picture taken with the entire field of Iditarod XLI mushers. The IditaRider Musher Auction’s main purpose is to help fund the race, in particular the $1,049 fee that is given to each finishing musher outside the Top 30 paying positions at the Award’s Banquet held in Nome on March 17, 2013. Iditarod XLI gets underway at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 in downtown Anchorage, Alaska.
