Started in 1972, the Chugiak Dog Mushers created the “Spring Classic,” a late season race replacing the cancelled Ship Creek Classic. Over the past 50 years, this event has grown to become the club’s premier event attracting top mushers around the world!
It is now called the Eagle River Classic and has become a huge draw for sprint racing in South Central, Alaska. Currently the race is held the first week of February and is a great race for mushers and dog drivers as they lead up to the Fur Rondy.
