We’re Coming to Your Kennel: Mushing Magazine Evolves into a Living, Traveling Community in 2026

When we were asked in the summer of 2023 whether we wanted to buy Mushing Magazine, we struck a deal in the cramped offices of the Nome Nugget. We knew then it had to be much more than a print magazine; those days are long gone. We were (and are) podcasters and strategic visionaries.

We are not ad salesmen, publishers, or traditional print journalists with big budgets for freelance talent.

That same year, we acquired Team and Trail, too. Behind the scenes, we’ve spent over two years building this new vision.

And over the last year in particular, we’ve invested heavily in professional growth by networking and learning alongside our esteemed colleagues in the Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) and the Podcast Professionals Association (PPA), where we proudly hold memberships.

Through OWAA’s world-class resources, ethical standards, outdoor narrative workshops, and annual conferences, we’ve deepened our craft in responsible, high-impact storytelling about the outdoors. Through PPA’s focus on podcast excellence, industry trends, professional development (webinars, certifications, networking), and support for behind-the-scenes creators, we’ve elevated our audio production and community-building game.

These affiliations have been instrumental in preparing us for the premium shift ahead.

Gratitude for Your Support

Thank you to our loyal readers, subscribers, and members who stayed through the transition to the Team and Trail Foundation nonprofit in August 2023. Your engagement with podcasts like the revived The Dog Driver, and Mushing(featuring mushers like Emily Robinson, Deb Glenn, and dryland voices), the digital library, and Mushing+ exclusives has fueled everything.

The 2026 Revamp: Premium & Inspired

Inspired by Adventure Journal (reader-supported, ad-light, quarterly depth) and Colossus (long-form profiles, substance-first), expect four powerful issues in 2026: more pages, immersive content, fewer ads, and extended profiles of mushing trailblazers.

The Game-Changer: Kennel Visits

We’re hitting the road to your kennel for fully funded (we cover all costs) in-depth features (4-6 hours): • Sit-down interviews • The Dog Driver podcast episodes • “Super Dogs” photos + bios • Behind-the-scenes for multi-platform use

Tested via Team and Trail Tours, now supercharged by OWAA/PPA learnings. Four per quarter, US regions first (Northeast, Midwest, West, etc.). First-come, first-served.
