2009 Anchorage Fur Rendezvous to feature $65,000 guaranteed minimum purse

The World Championship Sled Dog Races otherwise known as the Rondy is celebrating its 74th year of racing and is offering one of the largest purses in its history. $65,000 will be split amongst top sprint mushers willing to race one of, if not the toughest sprint race in the world. For three days, mushers will race 25 miles each day on a legendary course that runs through the streets of the city of Anchorage and on nearby designated sled dog trails. Over two miles of racing on snow covered city streets, and the many challenges of crossing pedestrian bridges and mushing under roadways through culverts makes the Rondy the most revered of open-class sprint races. Since 1999 the races has been dominated by Egil Ellis of Willow, Alaska, and Buddy Streeper of Fort Nelson, BC.
