On the True Nature of the Race & Endurance

On Resilience, Adaptation & Getting Through It

The restart moved from Wasilla to Willow because of urban sprawl and inconsistent snow. The trail that once ran through history now had to move because the ground under it changed. The race kept going.
A dog named Aafes was lost for 11 days in the wilderness, still wearing her harness and coat when she walked back into Rohn. The musher renamed her Rohn.
Bryan Mills finished the Iditarod with a broken tibia. Ellen Halverson extinguished the Red Lantern after missing the ramp onto Front Street and improvising an alley finish at 2:56 a.m.

On What the Trail Demands of Leaders

When creating something that has never been done exactly this way before (a 25th anniversary Quest, a restart that must move, a memorial run for Susan Butcher), there is no clean playbook. You still go.
